DR. MORIBA (RICHARD) C. KELSEY , Ph.D – Dr. Kelsey co-founded APDS along with his wife Dr. Barbara Kelsey. Dr. Kelsey’s extensive education includes a Doctorate of Philosophy in Counselor Education, The Ohio State University; Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling, Kent State University; and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Kent State University. Dr. Kelsey is a Licensed Psychologist, and certified Rites of Passage trainer. Dr. Moriba C. Kelsey, has brought years of experience and education to APDS and the African/African-American community .

JERRY SAUNDERS Jerry Saunders is President and Chief Executive Officer of APDS (Africentric Personal Development Shop, Inc.), which is a family and community development agency headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. Prior to joining APDS in April 1997, Saunders served ten years as Executive Director of the Eldon W. Ward YMCA Branch of Central Ohio. [ -more- ]

CHANDRA RAINSChandra Rains currently serves as the APDS Vice President of Operations. She is a mother of two boys. She is high energy and always excited about taking on new challenges. Chandra has been a member of the APDS team since the year 2000. Her background is in business administration and customer service related fields. Her continual pursuance of education, and experience in the accounting and the marketing professions has put her on the fast track to becoming one of central Ohio’s young executives to watch. Additionally, Ms. Rains serves her community as a member of the Southside Initiative, Urban Crime Advisory Commission, the Livingston Avenue Collaborative for Community Development (LACCD), the Business Professional Women’s Organization, and is the Chair of one of Central Ohio’s fastest growing African/African American cultural festivals, FESTAC (Festival of Art and Culture) .

MELANIE BOWLES - Melanie Bowles serves in the capacity of Program Evaluator. Originally from Cincinnati, OH, Melanie relocated to Columbus after earning a BA in Psychology from Denison University. She offers three years management experience in the community service field as well as several years of administrative experience. She has also worked with middle school youth and parents of school age children. Melanie is proud to be a part of APDS' efforts to serve and improve our community.

MINETTE BOWLES - Minette Bowles serves at APDS in the capacity of Human Resource Officer. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ms. Bowles moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1998. Minette brings three years of management experience in the community service arena, as well as several years of experience working and volunteering with elementary & middle school age children. Ms. Bowles is presently pursuing a degree in Human Ecology focusing on Family Studies.

DEBBIE BUIE,
CCDCIDebbie Bu’Ie has served in the capacity of Chemical Dependency Counselor at APDS since 1999. Debbie is also a certified Domestic Violence Instructor under the Duluth Minnesota Model and holds an Associates Degree in Legal Assisting. Ms. Bu’Ie is also a trained foster care parent.

HOWARD BURTON, RA - Howard Burton serves as a Prevention Program Facilitator. Howard currently facilitates youth Personal Development Class and Anger Management Class for adults. Howard was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he attended Wilkinsburg High School. He went on to study Political Science at Norfolk University. Howard has worked as a community organizer and Rites of Passage Instructor, which has allowed him to fully understand that the majority of, if not all, social maladies in the African community stem from the lack of our understanding of African Culture and History. Howard believes strongly that all are Africans and are conditioned to disassociate with anything African, including ones’ self, and that this has become the challenge. Howard firmly believes the reconstruction of African Culture and History simply means the reconstruction of our thoughts.

KACHINA CARTER - Kachina Carter serves in the capacity of Office Generalist. Kachina is a 2004 Graduate of Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center. Kachina is a Registered Medical Assistant. Kachina is planning to further her education at Franklin University majoring in Business Administration or Global Business. Kachina was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio and is the eldest of four children.

PAUL D. DORN, RA Paul Dorn currently serves as co-facilitator for the APDS Domestic Violence Education Class for males. Paul is President of the Board of Directors for Multiethnic Advocates For Cultural Competence In Behavioral Health Care Inc. (MACC). He is a founding Board member serving since 2003. Mr. Dorn serves as Human Relations Consultant with Dorn Counseling and Consulting Inc. With 15 years of experience in the area of Cultural Competency, Paul has trained extensively with the Anti-Defamation League, A World of Difference Institute and the Institute of Human Service. Paul has consulted with multiple school systems and organizations on issues of cultural competency, anti-bias education, school bullying, leadership development and team building throughout the United States. Paul is the immediate past Vice President/Chief Corporate Compliance Officer for St. Vincent Family Centers. With his wealth of experience he provides coaching in areas of management and supervision. Paul is a licensed Social Worker with the State of Ohio. Currently, he is affiliated with Columbus Children’s Hospital, Inc. as School Based Counselor and most recently as Suicide Prevention Specialist. He also works with the Africentric Personnel Development Shop, Inc. as a consultant with their Domestic Violence Program.
Paul is a graduate of The Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina and Ohio University in Athens Ohio. He has a B.A. in Public Administration and a M.Ed., in Counselor Education. Mr. Dorn has served as a mentor for the Franklin County Children Services SIMBA program for the past 11 years. He is a Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Paul resides in Columbus, Ohio with his family.

EMILY FLAGG, RA Emily Flagg serves in the capacity of Instructor for the Imhotep Learning Institute After School Program and Arts & Crafts facilitator for the Summer Camp Program. She also serves as the APDS Activities Assistant. Ms. Flagg brings several years of experience in the child care field and adds a special touch to everything she does at APDS .

IDRIS GRAY , RA Idris Gray currently serves as Program Coordinator for The Imhotep Learning Institute and facilitates youth Personal Development Class. He is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio and moved to Columbus in 1999. He is a recent graduate of The Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in African American and African Studies. He has experience with both elementary and middle school age children and is pursuing a career within the field of education.

MAYO Chester Mayo serves as the APDS Maintenance Engineer and Safety Officer. Elder Chet, as he is well known has worked with APDS since 1993. Elder Chet is retired from the United States Postal Service and has worked at the Columbus Board of Education as a custodian for a period of ten years. His hobbies are bowling and fishing

REGINA MITCHELL, MCJ, RA Regina Mitchell serves as APDS’s Collective Action for Youth and Neighborhood Development (CAYND) Program Manager. She comes to APDS with a strong criminal gang, criminal justice and social service background. She has worked in the criminal justice and social service arena on a local, state and national level. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the Ohio State University and a Master’s in Criminal Justice Administration from Tiffin University.
Regina has worked for the Ohio Attorney General’s Office Anti Gang Unit where she was instrumental in developing Ohio’s Criminal Gang Prevention Curriculum and Ohio’s Victims of Gang Violence Project and the Franklin County Adult Probation Department where she created the Criminal Gang Supervision Program for felony level offenders with gang affiliation sentenced in Franklin County.
LYNETTE R. SOWELL - Lynette Sowell presently serves in the capacity of APDS Administrative Assistant. She has assisted APDS in helping to meet the needs of the community in a very diverse manner, as she has worn several hats at APDS and is ever understanding of the operations process. She possesses an extensive clerical/administrative background and continues to contribute her knowledge and expertise whenever and wherever needed. Lynette forever wears a contagious smile that she looks to pass on to others whenever possible. She brings to APDS a genuine love and compassion for helping others as she looks to see the good in everyone, attempting to be the waterer for every good seed that has been planted. Lynette is currently in pursuit of her degree in Business Administration and Finance.

CAROL STEGALL, CDCA – Carol Stegall serves in the capacity of APDS Alcohol & Other Drug Counselor.
Ms. Stegall began her relationship with APDS as a part-time Administrative Generalist in November of 2000, and moved into the position on a full-time basis by January of 2001. Ms. Stegall demonstrated great commitment and dedication to fulfilling her administrative responsibilities, while working to meet the requirements for Registered Candidate status. In March 2003, Mrs. Stegall’s new Registered Candidate status combined with previous experience with non-profit agencies that provide services to individuals at risk, unlocked the door for her to come on board in the capacity in which she serves today. With a strong commitment to service, Carol renewed her RC status in March 2004 and has been accepted for enrollment at Columbus State Community College in her efforts to meet the requirements to sit for her CDCA (Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant) certification. She remains an active member in her church as a licensed Evangelist/Teacher, with a heart to serve

DEMETRA TAYLOR, PCC - Demetra Taylor is a Professional Clinical Counselor in the state of Ohio. She is currently serving at APDS in the capacity of Clinical Supervisor and provides assessments/interviews for incoming customers. Before she became a full-time employee, Demetra began her counseling career as a Practicum student and then as an intern at APDS in the 2003 academic school year. Demetra has also returned to school to pursue a Doctorate in Counselor Education .

RICARDO WILKINS - Ricardo Wilkins serves as a contractor who facilitates the APDS Computer Literacy program for both youth and adults. Ricardo also serves as the webmaster for the APDS website, and as a network and hardware consultant for technology needs at APDS. Ricardo’s company, Nehemiah Enterprises, has been serving Columbus since 1999, working in the areas of web development, software programming, technology training and consulting. Ricardo has a B.S. in Computer & Information Science from The Ohio State University.
