APDS IMHOTEP LEARNING INSTITUTE
After School and Summer Day Camp Programs

APDS offers after-school and summer day camp programs for youth ages 6-12.  During the “regular school year” after school activities (academic, recreational, and cultural) are offered Monday through Friday between 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm; enrollment is limited to 30 youth and the cost is free to participants. 

During the summer months the APDS operates a 10-week summer day camp. Summer Day Camp enrollment is limited to 70 youth (boys and girls).  The hours of operation during summer months are 7:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.  Recreational, educational and cultural activities, along with weekly field trips are on the agenda for the summer months.  Meals are included in the after school and summer day camp programs. The program itself is offered free of charge, however, there is a mandatory one time activity fee per child for the summer session.

The goals of this program (for participants who attend for one calendar year) are as follow:

  1. 90% of participants will be able to articulate the harmful effects of violent behavior, alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use
  2. 80% of participants will maintain at least a 93% rate of attendance in school while in program
  3. 80% of participants will show gains in academic achievements
  4. 85% of participants will be able to name and define each principal of Nguzo Saba
  5. 90% of participants will know and be able to spell the days of the week
  6. 80% of participants will know the 50 states of the United States of America
  7. 80% of participants will know the 5 great lakes of North America
  8. 80% of participants will know the 52 countries in Africa
  9. 80% of participants will know the major bones of the human body
  10. 80% of participants will know the basic parts of a sentence
  11. 80% of participants will know proper dining etiquette
  12. 80% of participants will be able to properly introduce themselves in a public venue
  13. 80% of participants will know basic computer skills
