
APDS, Inc. is a 501(C)3 non-profit innovative behavioral healthcare center specializing in prevention, treatment, and recovery of substance abuse and domestic violence intervention education.
APDS, Inc. was founded by Drs. Richard ‘Moriba’ and Barbara Kelsey in 1988.
APDS, Inc. is dually certified by the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services (ODADAS) to operate both Non-Intensive/Intensive Outpatient Treatment and Prevention programs.
APDS, Inc. provides a comprehensive range of innovative and appropriate educational and social services to effectively:
- Provide wellness programs, treatment and recovery services for individuals, families, organizations and communities through three program areas:
- Substance Abuse Outpatient Treatment & Recovery Department,
- Domestic Violence Intervention Education for Male Batterers,
- APDS Collective Action for Youth and Neighborhood Development (CAYND)
- Offer consultation, educational programs, cultural activities and services to strengthen communities i.e. Youth Empowerment and Prevention Summer Day Camp, APDS Millicent “Mama Kim” Dixon Scholarship Fund, GED Classes, Ohio Benefits Bank, Citizen Circle, Female & Male Support Groups, and Celebration of Families Festival.
- Encourage wholistic development and lifestyles which leads to optimal health, and
- Promote the belief that healthy families are the foundation of a successful Community
APDS is primarily funded by citizens of Franklin County through the ADAMH Board of Franklin County. Additional funds are received through Medicaid, APDS Millicent “Mama Kim” Dixon Scholarship Fund, City of Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, Community Shares of Mid-Ohio (COSMO), United Way Contributor’s Choice Program, individuals, and corporations.
Most of the programs are offered at no charge to our participants. A subsidy scale is applied to some of our programs. Financial assistance is available to anyone who qualifies.
APDS annual budget is just under one million dollars with 14 staff members plus 7 seasonal employees for summer day camp.
